The long wait is over! It's the annual affair every Apple lover anticipates the most: the release of the new iPhone. The gadget's latest iteration, the iPhone 7, is a sleek dream: it has a 25% brighter screen, a display with a wider color gamut, better battery life, and it's completely waterproof. It comes in silver, gold, rose gold, and two new finishes: jet black (to replace the old space grey option) and matte black. The home button is now pressure- and touch-sensitive and no longer clickable. New improvements to the camera are sure to get both amateur and professional shutterbugs excited. And, in a decision that rocked the techie world, Apple has also ditched the headphone jack — the perennial innovator's attempt to fast forward to a wireless future.

With all these great benefits, would anyone say that the iPhone 7 is one of the best investments out there? In everyday life, in emergency situations and in travel, the iPhone 7 is definitely a tool that can make the most out of your experiences — but only for a limited time. In the broader, longer-term picture, would it still fare better against such a safe haven as travel insurance? Explore the possibilities and see for yourself.

As a travel buddy

iPhone 7: Adventurers and thrill-seekers rejoice: the iPhone 7 is waterproof and dust-resistant! It can survive underwater up to a meter deep for 30 minutes. Now you can take your phone with you on short snorkeling trips or selfie sessions with your beach buddies. The 12-megapixel camera has a 28mm wide-angle lens, optical image stabilization, wide color capture and a high speed sensor. If you're getting the iPhone 7 Plus, you'll also be signing up for a much better camera. It comes with dual cameras, the second one being a 56mm telephoto lens with a zoom feature — no more blurred shots of concerts or animals in the wild!

Travel Insurance: Unfortunately, the iPhone 7 cannot protect you against accidents. When it comes to travel, even if you're the most seasoned journeyman or the most Type-A planner, there's really no telling what might happen. For as low as less than ₱1,000 per month, a travel insurance plan can cover hundreds of thousands of pesos in personal accident and medical expenses — no need to empty out your savings account in such cases! You won't need to worry if your trip gets cancelled, or if you lose your baggage, as even the most basic of travel insurance plans have these covered too.

As a buffer for health and personal emergencies

Iphone 7: It comes pre-installed with a Health app as well. Using your phone's built-in sensors, it can measure the number of steps you take, the distance you walk or run and the flights of stairs you climb so you'll have an idea how active you are. Fill in your health information in the Medical ID, which you can set to be viewable even when locked. Body measurements, nutrition, sleep, vitals and other health data can also be logged through the app. By downloading other fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal or the Nike Training Club, you can make your iPhone 7 fit your individual health needs.

The Medical ID tool is useful for emergencies, but that's about it.

Travel Insurance: When it comes down to the details, what's going to cost you is any unforeseen health event, and we all know hospitalizations and medicine cost an arm and a leg. For many Filipinos, getting seriously sick or hospitalized is their worst financial nightmare. That's why if you're thinking of just getting one type of insurance (admittedly not recommended), health insurance should probably be your first choice. Depending on your plan, it can cover a certain number of hospitalizations per year, or up to ₱500,000 to ₱1.5 million in hospital and medicine expenses. Insurance can also make check-up appointments or trips to the operating room much lighter on the pocket, and most include dental coverage.

As a road trip companion

iPhone 7: Are you a proud car owner? Then one of your most favorite things to do with your prized possession would most likely be going on road trips with friends or family. And what could be better than putting some flavor on every road trip with a little feel-good music? Whether you're using the local Music app or a streaming service like Spotify, the iPhone 7's stereo speakers, located at both the top and the bottom of the device, will make for a smooth and lively listening session. They also have an increased dynamic range, and you can always connect it to your car's stereo via Bluetooth. If you're going solo and prefer earphones, you're going to have to either use a lightning converter or Bluetooth earbuds, because the iPhone 7 no longer has a headphone jack.

Travel Insurance: Then again, don't let the music lull you into thinking you're no longer driving in Manila's notoriously wild roads, where drivers are just about as unpredictable as our weather. No self-respecting car owner should forgo car insurance! More than present enjoyment, in which the iPhone 7 undoubtedly ups the game on, car insurance plans can protect you from future headaches if you find yourself getting involved in an accident. No need to worry about costs for vehicle towing and property damage, whether caused by the insured party, a third party or acts of nature. Bodily injury or death to a third party can also be covered, if you choose your insurance provider well.

As a life confidante

The App Store is a treasure trove of some of the best apps in the market today, and with the right downloads, you can enhance your life in so many ways, whether it is through better financial management, organizing to-dos, practicing your chosen art, staying current using news apps, combating boredom through informative apps or games, or keeping up-to-date with family and friends via social media. Thankfully, the iPhone 7 can accommodate a busier lifestyle with its battery life improvements. The battery will now last for 2 hours more, compared to the iPhone 6S, and an additional one hour on the iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 7 also boasts of the 24-bit, quad-core A10 Fusion processor, Apple's most powerful processor to date. To store all your files, photos and music, choose between 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. With the new iOS 10 also comes an improved Siri, the voice-activated digital assistant, and 3D Touch.

But you know what else could possibly help you enjoy your life to the fullest? It's the knowledge that whatever happens, your loved ones' future will be secure. There are few better ways to accomplish that than to avail of life insurance. Life insurance gives lump sum payments when the insured party passes away or, in some policies, whenever he or she needs it. Nowadays, you can choose between term life insurance, which provides protection for a certain period; universal life insurance, which offers flexible lifetime coverage; whole life insurance, which gives lifetime coverage with a fixed premium; and variable life insurance, which includes an investment component in such things as money market funds to build up cash value. There's nothing wrong with living in the now (or YOLO, as the youths call it), but having life insurance is somehow like a next-level YOLO: to be able to let go of your worries because you've invested in the ultimate life buffer.

Decided to ditch the iPhone 7 in favor of travel insurance (or, even better, get both)? Look no further than GoBear, where you can compare the best policies for you and your budget.
